Christ from the Deésis
According the tradition, there're three basic canonic types of the delineation of Christ.
- The "Arkheiropoietosz" (The Portrait of the Saviour made not by hand), what is told be the oldest and most authentic portrait of Jesus. This is the impression of his resurrecting body on his funeral veil (mandilion).
- The "Saviour on throne in glory". This delineation has the central place on the iconostasis in the Deésis construction.
- Pantokrator (The Christ reigning above all, the one, who includes existence) the utterance the manifestation - epiphany - of the transcendent God, who has put human traits upon himself.
Christ appears as who "gives life to the existing", he is the Lord of Life, the Almighty, the Rex Mundi.
